In this article by Roni Caryn Rabin, this talks about the all-famous show known by everyone, Spongebob Squarepants, actually stunts the thought process of young children, and the possible result of a child developing A.D.H.D. (Information about A.D.H.D.)
This isn't much of a suprise to Rabin, who believes that this show can do some damage.
According to Angeline S. Lillard, currently a professer of pschology teaching at the University of Virginia, says that the fast-paced action and events that take place in Spongebob Squarepants makes children from 2 to 5 years have a shortened attention span.
In a test to prove this point, 60 children were placed into three different, special groups. The first group watched nine minutes of Spongebob, the second group watched nine minutes of Caillou, an educational program, and the third group spent nine minutes drawing and painting.
Tests were given to each child right after the nine minutes were up, involving rudimentary skills dealing with memory and attention tasks.
The results, by parental reports, turned out to be what Lillard predicted--the first group who watched Spongebob didn't do nearly as well as the ones who watched the educational program or were working on painting and drawing.
Why did the children in the first group fall behind?
The reason be is that even in comparison to another television show, Caillou, is much slower and stimulates the growth of the child's mind.
A show like Spongebob, as we can all imagine, hinders rather than helps the child's mental growth and capacity due to the all the nonsense followed by even more nonsense.
